How to measure for my handmade doll wigs

DSC04067.jpg

First measure with a cloth measuring tape for your doll head circumference, starting behind her ear. Place the measuring tape where a natural hairline would be. If your doll head has a cork pate , let me know, I will need to add a little in circumference so you can place it on her head easier.

Second measurement is for your dolls head depth.   A measurement for depth is important because your doll wig will avoid being made to shallow or to deep which will make it less likely to slip off her head if made to shallow. Measure ear top to ear top over her pate. Your doll must have a pate or solid dome to be able to arrive at the correct depth measurement. If you doll head has no pate, purchase one or construct one yourself and then measure and order.

Wendy's tips for measuring
for your special ordered doll wig.

1- Measure with a cloth tape, not with a metal tape, your measurement could be way off.

2- Look in a mirror and look at your own natural hairline , this will help greatly when measuring for her head circumference and where a measure tape should be.

3 -  If your antique doll has an old cork pate, let me know when ordering. Cork is a bit rough and can grab the wig cap fabric , so when you go to place her new wig on her head, it can make it a bit of challenge getting the wig on.  If I know your doll wears a cork Pate, I will keep this in mind and add a little to your wig circumference while constructing your doll wig..

4 -  When you are ready to order your doll wig this is how you want to write out your order for a doll wig.  Example: If your dolls head measures 9" inches and she has a depth measurement of 4" inches you would order your wig this way 9" x 4".  Include style choice, color, bang choice,  and if you want a silk bow added. I have many shades of silk ribbon available and there is no extra charge when the bow is hand sewn to your wig.  If you ever decide to remove the bow, it is easy, just use a small scissor and snip it off, it is only sewn on with a few threads that match her hair color..

5 - Write your measurements down and measure twice, I do not allow returns on my handmade wigs.  99% percent of my customers measure well the first time and love the fit of their wig on their doll, so do not be afraid measuring, it is easy to do.

6- Pre made wigs, I enjoy making them when I have time and they will fit many dolls with the measurements shown for each design offered . Example: If I offer a wig that measures 9" x 4", it would also fit a doll head that measures 8 3/4" x 3 3/4". Pre made wigs are already made and  will ship them out within a day or two after payment is made.

7- I make all the wigs you see, I do not have helpers, so therefore  please be patient when ordering, I will always do my best creating what you want as quickly as I can.

8- My handmade wigs do not have stretch caps or bands in them, so measure before ordering . My handmade wigs will last for many years to come, because they are made from natural materials , just like the old dollies would have had when made many years ago.

9 -  One last word about measuring. Do not go by what some else tells you to order for size without measuring yourself, they are rarely correct. Also, if your doll already has a wig and you see a size in it, do not go by that either, commercial wigs have commercially made caps to fit several dolls. My wigs are custom made, they will fit your doll like a fine hat, made just for her.

10- A helpful hint for any doll wig and if you do not want to glue it on. Use two sided Scotch tape. Place between a 1/2" to 1" of tape on the inside of the wig and place it on her head. You will only need two pieces at the most, front and back.

Glueing wigs on is never a great idea. If you ever pack your doll or ship her, you do not want her wig attached to her head, Remove it and store it in the box it will come in until you are settled. Leaving the wig on and then packing her, the weight of the doll will flatten the hair style you ordered.

11- If you need a new cork pate please see information below, you will love the qua these.
